Extract lines PS action by SOSFactory Extract lines PS action by SOSFactory
Its only a Photoshop action to extract lines from black and white draws, its the common way we use to color comics... much better in my opinion than the other way (putting the lineart at the top of the layers in multiply mode), with this one you can color the lines very easy.

Enjoy!

INSTRUCTIONS:
Download this action to your hard disc

1.- Open your black and white lineart in Photoshop CS.
2.- Open Action panel and click the arrow at the right-top corner of this panel.
3.- Choice Load action (remember the folder where did you donwloaded the action file).
4.- Your new action will appear into the actions panels and you only have to select it and click on the play button at the bottom of the panel.

5.- Click on OK if it ask you.

Its all

I have a problem. I loaded up the action, but when I run it - It says "The object layer "Capa1" is currently not available.

Any ideas?

Apparently, I'm too stupid to figure out the simplicity of this "actions" thing. This didn't help me out at all. I don't know if it's the program I'm using (CS) or what, but it's not working for me.

Probably not, I don't know which folder to put it in, or what "it" is exactly.

You can put it at any folder and then in the action panel browse for it... choice a folder you know you wont modify or you have to browse it again.

What exactly am I putting into a folder? This action that you have here? I'm so thoroughly confused, I'm certain now that even if I did figure this out, that it'd be too complex for me to figure out to apply it to my work.

Its in any basic photoshop manual, you can see your help menu... it will be easier.

Look for "load action".

Cheers.

Great, thanks a lot. If people want to color only the lines, they can always lock the pixels on the layer with the lines.

Woah! sweet!

I'm a little confused, however; could I have just duplicated the lineart that was a background previously, deleted the background lineart and set the new duplicated layer to "Multiply" :S

yes, its explained in the description... extracting lineart is much better because you can paint the lines.

thanks man! its very neat and handy! but another question, im confused about this whole coloring stuff..can you please help me out?for example i use three shades for coloring, im not sure what goes first as the flat color. should i start with the lighest shade of color or the darkest one?i try different combinations but i am still not satisfied with the results..

Well, I usually start with medium colors and later I add shadows and highlights.

You can try a easy way to color... use a medium color, add a layer in multiply mode and paint the sadows with the same color, now add another layer in screen mode and paint the highlight with the same color.

:)

Well, now you leave this layer at the top of your layer panels and add the color layers below.

Now you dont need to be too carefull to paint the different areas and there is no risk of modify the lineart when you color... I usually use:

1.- Lineart
2.- Shading
3.- Flat colors.

Plus: (0.- color over the lines, layer effects...)

I hope it help you ;)
